Lighting and sockets on the Wirral

New lighting, downlights, extra sockets and new circuits for homes across the Wirral, installed neatly with certified components.

Most homes were wired for a handful of lamps and a radio. Today we need sockets for phones, laptops, televisions and smart speakers, and lighting that works for cooking, reading and relaxing. Good lighting and enough sockets in the right places make a real difference to how a home feels to live in.

We fit new lighting, downlights and extra sockets, and add new circuits, for homes across the Wirral, Merseyside and Chester. Whether it is one extra double socket behind the television or a new lighting scheme for the whole ground floor, the work is done neatly, tested and certified.

Lighting and power jobs we do

A few of the jobs we are asked for most:

  • LED downlights and spotlights
  • New ceiling lights and pendants
  • Dimmer switches
  • Two-way and three-way switching
  • Wall lights
  • Extra double sockets
  • USB and USB-C sockets
  • Moving or replacing sockets and switches
  • New circuits for extensions and loft rooms

Downlights done properly

Downlights give a clean, modern look, but fitting them means cutting holes in your ceiling, and that has consequences. Where the ceiling separates floors or a garage, fire-rated downlights help keep that fire protection intact. Where there is loft insulation above, the fittings need to be the right type so the insulation does not have to be pulled back and the fittings do not overheat.

Lighting works best in layers: general light from the ceiling, task light where you read, cook or work, and softer wall or lamp light for the evening. Two-way switching on stairs and landings, and switches placed by the door you actually use, are small details that make a home easier to live in.

We plan the layout so the light falls where you need it, check the joists before cutting, and choose fittings with dimmers that actually work with them, so you do not get the flicker and buzz that comes from mismatched LED lamps and switches.

Adding sockets: better than an extension lead

Daisy-chained extension leads and overloaded adaptors are a common cause of house fires. Adding proper sockets is usually quicker and less disruptive than people expect. Where an existing circuit has the capacity, we can extend it; where it does not, or where you need a lot more power, such as for a home office, a new circuit is the better answer.

Under BS 7671, the 18th Edition wiring regulations, sockets in homes need 30mA RCD protection, and so do cables buried in walls at shallow depth. If your circuits are not protected, we will explain what is needed, which is often a fuse board upgrade. We test the existing circuit before adding to it, so we are not extending a fault.

Planning a new kitchen, or want lights and power in the garden? See our outdoor lighting and electrics page. If there are lots of changes and the wiring is old, a part rewire can sometimes be the tidier option.

How it works

  1. Tell us what you need

Where you want the lights or sockets, and a few photos of the room and your fuse board.

  2. Clear quote

A written price before we start, with a visit first for bigger lighting schemes.

  3. Neat installation

Dust sheets down, cables routed in safe zones, faceplates level, and holes made good.

  4. Test and certify

A Minor Works Certificate for additions, or an Electrical Installation Certificate for a new circuit.

Small jobs, done with the same care

A single socket gets the same attention as a full rewire: the right cable, certified components, tidy terminations and a proper test before we leave. New circuits are notifiable under Part P, and as a NAPIT approved, Part P registered electrician we handle the notification for you.

Getting the small details right, like the switch that lines up with the door frame, is a habit the Navy taught us. It is also why our work comes with a satisfaction and performance guarantee.

Lighting and socket questions

All questions

Can you add a socket without a lot of mess?

Usually, yes. Many extra sockets can be run from an existing circuit with a short cable chase or by feeding the cable through the wall cavity or under the floor. We tell you beforehand how much making good is involved, and tidy up before we leave.

Do I need a certificate for a new light or socket?

Adding to an existing circuit is recorded on a Minor Works Certificate. A new circuit gets an Electrical Installation Certificate and is notified to building control under Part P. We issue the right certificate for every job.

Why do my LED lights flicker?

Often it is a dimmer switch that is not compatible with the LED lamps, or a mix of lamp types on one circuit. Sometimes it points to a loose connection. We can check the circuit and recommend matching lamps and dimmers.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. Our work comes with a satisfaction and performance guarantee. We use certified components, test everything before we leave, and if something is not right we come back and put it right.
