Older houses and rented flats

A lot of Birkenhead was built in the Victorian and Edwardian years: long terraces around Tranmere and Rock Ferry, and big villas in Oxton and Claughton, many of them now split into flats. Houses that age have often been rewired in bits over the decades, so we regularly find a mix of old and new cable, extra circuits tacked on and fuse boards with no RCD protection. An EICR shows exactly what you have before you spend anything.

Oxton is a conservation area, so we take care over where new cables and fittings go and make good neatly. For landlords with flats and terraces across the town, we carry out EICRs, quote for any remedial work with the report and give you the paperwork your tenants need.

  • Had Tom with me today doing a full check on the electrics in my house. He was on time, great with communicating, did a fab job and was generally a lovely young man with clearly a good head on his shoulders. I have saved his number for future work and will recommend him and the business to anyone. Thanks again Tom, genuinely appreciate you coming out today.

Birkenhead questions

All questions

Can you do landlord EICRs for my Birkenhead flats?

Yes. We test rental flats and houses across Birkenhead, from converted villas in Oxton and Claughton to terraces in Tranmere and Rock Ferry. You get the report, a quote for anything that needs putting right and written confirmation once the remedial work is done.

My house in Oxton is old. Does it need a full rewire?

Not always. Many older Oxton and Claughton houses have been partly rewired already. An EICR tells us which circuits are sound and which are not, so we can say honestly whether you need a full rewire, a part rewire or just a new fuse board and a few repairs.

Are you a registered electrician?

Yes. We are NAPIT approved and registered under the Part P competent person scheme, so notifiable work is certified and registered with building control for you. Every job is tested and you get the right certificate for it: an Electrical Installation Certificate for new circuits and rewires, a Minor Works Certificate for smaller jobs, or an EICR for an inspection.

Do you give free quotes?

Yes. Tell us what you need by phone, WhatsApp or the form on this site and we will give you a clear quote before any work starts. For bigger jobs such as a rewire we come and look first, so the price is based on your actual property, not a guess.

Do you offer a discount for key workers?

Yes. Blue light employees (police, fire, ambulance and other emergency services) and care sector workers get 10% off. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we may ask to see your work ID.

For example: three-bed semi, old fuse box, looking at a full rewire. Or: kitchen being fitted next month, need a new cooker circuit and spotlights.
A photo of your fuse board or the job helps us give you a closer price.
